Where We've Been & Why We Want to #RecallSisolak
On Valentine's Day, February 2020, as the world was just learning about a virus that was causing mayhem and chaos in Europe and China, a small but dedicated group of Nevadans demonstrated how much they loved our state by filing what is now the first of three recall petitions with the Secretary of State. This initial group, known as "Fight For Nevada", knew the odds were stacked against them. They, like we, had just 90 days to collect 243,995 signatures to require a recall election. Their reasons for undertaking such a daunting task? They believed Governor Sisolak had failed to fulfill his primary responsibilities: to serve the residents of the State of Nevada and to support and defend the documents our country is founded on... the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
According to their website: Sisolak forced Nevadans to report their vehicle mileage in preparation for mileage taxes.
He supports anti-2nd Amendment legislation, including bans on commonly-owned firearms. Sisolak placed illegal restrictions on the transfer of private property.
Sisolak supported laws requiring the metering of privately-held wells. Sisolak supports abortions without parental notification for children. Sisolak is in favor of a State Income Tax.
And that's just a snapshot of what Sisolak was doing BEFORE Covid-19 was even a thing. Now imagine how demoralized these Nevadans must have been when in March all non-essential businesses were suddenly shuttered, making it next to impossible to collect signatures. Undaunted they soldiered on. They worked closely with gun stores (which are protected as "essential" businesses by the Nevada State Constitution). They organized various grassroots events, which were promoted by local radio hosts and on social media. Then they began collecting at the rapidly expanding "Open Nevada" protests. But these hard-working folks soon realized it wasn't going to be enough. Given the extenuating circumstances of Covid-19, "Fight for Nevada" looked for relief from the courts asking for an extension, equivalent to the state's coronavirus stay-at-home order, given that so many voters were "sheltering in place" and so many businesses were closed.
They were denied. On May 20, 2020, the Secretary of State announced that the first #RecallSisolak effort had failed to gather the necessary signatures. The total gathered: 33,105. (Between us, I think it's safe to say they did one heck of a job considering we were in the midst of a pandemic.) Of course, now the rest of us know what the people who organized "Fight For Nevada" knew last January, Governor Steve Sisolak is #UnfitForOffice. Steve Sisolak's first responsibility is to serve the residents of the Silver State. Do you believe that Governor Sisolak is serving the residents of the Silver State to the best of his ability? Do you believe, based on his behavior and leadership during these past 6 months, that Steve Sisolak supports and defends the U.S. Constitution? Or the Bill of Rights? (It's OK, I know what you are thinking...) If you are here, you already know the answer is NO! We have seen first-hand how the Governor has placed the goals of his political party and/or person, before the safety, security, and prosperity of the State of Nevada. Simply put, he had one job to do, and he has failed to do it.
On August 28, 2020, Battle Born Patriots PAC registered with the Nevada Secretary of State and filed its notice of intent to recall the Governor beginning September Battle Born Patriots TakingNevadaBack.com is picking up where they left off. We have one goal: 243,995 signatures. We have one DEADLINE: December 2, 2020.
